Yesterday, the Israeli army carried out massive air
strikes against the most densely populated area on the planet – an area
already suffering from a crippling two years siege the likes of which
have not been witnessed since the Middle Ages. Israeli F-16s slammed
over a hundred tons of missiles into the 360 sq km Strip home to over
1.5 million people.
Today at least 278 have been reportedly killed,
many of them civilians, and more than 1,000 have sustained heavy
injuries. We expect the number to continue to rise throughout the day
as more bodies are uncovered from the rubble, more casualties succumb
to their wounds, and more bombs continue to fall.These attacks have
been the bloodiest in over 41 years of Israeli occupation.
The authors
and underwrites of this petition hereby condemn:
1. The Israeli “myth”
of disengagement in Gaza and the ongoing siege of the Palestinian
people. The State of Israeli remains in control of the airspace,
waterways, and borders of Gaza.
They have prevented the entry of
food, fuel, goods, medicines, medical supplies, humanitarian assistance
and journalists. The lives of the people of Gaza has been made all but
liveable for far too long.
2. Israel’s policy of collective punishment
prohibited by international law. Yesterday’s attacks were not a matter
of Israeli self-defence or a war against Hamas, but rather a war
conducted on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
3. The ruthless
targeting of civilians. Yesterday Israel targeted hospitals, Mosques
and jails.
Furthermore, considering the physical nature of the Gaza
Strip and the incredible density of 4,117 persons per square
kilometres, it is impossible for the Israeli Air Forces to hit only the
so-called ‘security targets’.
4. The disproportionate use of force.
In
regards of those facts, we call the State of Israel to:
1. End the
violence and the aggressions against the Palestinian population
immediately;
2. End the siege on Gaza and return to a negotiated
ceasefire;
3. Take immediate steps to end the 41 year old Israeli
occupation, and implement the Arab peace initiative.
Furthermore, we
call on the International Community to:
1. Urgently pressure their
governments to condemn the attack and to intervene: politically,
economically against Israel, and to pressure them to abide by the
Fourth Geneva Convention regulating the behaviour of the occupying
power.
2. Urgently pressure the International governments to end the war
crimes in Gaza and to investigate, condemn and punish those responsible.

Ieri, l’esercito israeliano ha portato un massiccio attacco aereo contro l’area più popolata del pianeta – un’area che già soffre un devastante assedio che dura da due anni; per ricordarne di simili bisogna tornare indietro fino al Medio Evo.
Gli F-16 israeliani hanno sganciato centinaia di tonnellate di missili dentro una striscia di 360 km quadrati abitata da 1.5 milioni di persone.
Ad oggi le fonti parlano di 278 persone uccise, molte di esse civili, e più di 1000 sono i feriti gravi. Ci si aspetta che il numero continui a crescere nei prossimi giorni quando altri corpi verranno tirati fuori dalle macerie, altri feriti soccomberanno alle ferite, e altre bombe cadranno. Questi attacchi sono i più sanguinoso da 41 anni di occupazione ad oggi. Gli autori di questa petizione e chi la sottoscrive condannano:
1. Il "mito" del disimpegno di Israele da Gaza e il continuo assedio del popolo palestinese. Lo Stato d’Israele controlla ancora lo spazio aereo, i corsi d’acqua, i confini di Gaza. Hanno impedito l’ingresso di cibo, benzina, merci, medicine, forniture mediche, assistenza umanitaria e giornalisti. (…)
2. La politica di Israele della punizione collettiva è proibita dalla legge internazionale. L’attacco iniziato ieri non riguarda l’autodifesa di Israele o la guerra contro Hamas, ma piuttosto è una guerra condotta contro i civili e le infrastrutture civili.
3. Lo spietato obiettivo dei civili. Ieri Israele ha colpito ospedali, moschee e prigioni.
Inoltre, considerando la natura fisica della Striscia di Gaza e l’incredibile densità di 4117 persone per km quadrato, è impossibile per l’Air Force israeliana centrare solo i cosiddetti "obiettivi mirati".
4. La sproporzione nell’uso della forza.
A questo riguardo, chiamiamo lo Stato d’Israele a:
1. Terminare la violenza e l’aggressione contro il popolo palestinese immadiatamente;
2. Terminare l’assedio di Gaza e riprendere il cessate il fuoco negoziato;
3. Riprendere la strada per porre fine a 41 anni di occupazione israeliana, e implementare l’iniziativa araba di pace.
Inoltre, chiamiamo la Comunità Internazionale a:
1. Fare urgentemente pressione ai propri Governi per condannare l’attacco e per intervenire: politicamente, economicamente contro Israele, e per fare pressione affinche rispetti la Quarta Convenzione di Ginevra correggendo il comportamento delle forze di occupazione.
2. Fare urgentemente pressione agli Organismi Internazionali perché finiscano i crimini di guerra a Gaza e per investigare, condannare e punire i responsabili.
